If may be common knowledge that nail fungus infections result in yellow or brown discoloration, but did you know that the nail fungus can cause the nail to detach completely from the nail bed?  If you'd didn't then read on.  In this article we gather together 10 lesser-known facts about nail fungus infections.

  6. Old people have a higher incidence rate, presumably due to slower growing nails and poor circulation.  Rates are also higher among diabetics.
  7. The disease will not disappear spontaneously.  In fact it will get progressively worse and harder to treat over time.  The upshot: seek treatment early.
  8. Systemic oral prescription medications are available.  But they come with the concern of side effects.  Blood toxicity tests are normally required during the course of treatment.
  9. Common places where you can pick up a nail fungus infection are at the gym, in public changing rooms and showers.  It also makes sense to bring your own nail instruments to your manicurist or pedicurist.
