Laser surgery or LASIK is a surgical procedure used to correct astigmatism, near sightedness and farsightedness. It is an out-patient procedure which means that patients may have the comfort of recovering in their respective homes after the procedure unless otherwise advised by the surgeon.

Just like all other surgeries though, laser surgery of the eye has risks. Despite being classified as minor risks, a risk is still a risk no matter the gravity. As a word of caution, it is greatly advised to seek a competent practitioner when seeking for a way to correct your eye problems with laser surgery.

Because laser surgery is well, a surgery, a lot of people ask about the procedure. Basically, LASIK is a non-invasive surgery which simply means that no skin is cut or sliced in the process. Scarring is also out of the question since, like as mentioned, it is a non-invasive surgery. The procedure is guided by laser making precision cuts which are very thin to the cornea where excess tissue that impedes vision is removed. The flap is then returned to place and allowed to heal after all the tissues are removed.

For people who are giving up their glasses or contact lenses for a more permanent way of correcting faulty vision, laser surgery may be your answer. Asking your physician about the best approach is the first step in your path to a better vision. Depending on the gravity of the error, laser surgery may or may not be advised. When in doubt, always remember your rights as a patient. Always ask and remember to look for a second opinion if you think the approach is rather irrational or uncomfortable for you.

With the advances in technology, procedures such as laser surgery have high success rates.
